Yahoo drops directory in web search results

Well, it’s finally happened. Another example of search engines having amazing directories but not knowing how to integrate them with web search.
Far as I can tell Yahoo has totally dropped directory categories, such as:

    That’s really too bad.

  2. a crying shame. i’ve always appreciated the editorial nature of directories. some time ago, google used to include the directory path to any site that came up in a SERP that was also in the directory. it allowed you to then drill down into the category and discover other sites about your area of interest.

isn’t there any room for cataloging in information science any more?!

Oh, but look at the home page: http://www.yahoo.com/ - they’ve promoted Directory to a prominent link at the top left. I like that quite a bit. It’s making more sense, now. They are treating the Directory as another piece of yahoo-generated content, like News or Finance.

Yep, it’s part of the Yahoo everything now, but I still wish it was integrated, even minimally, with web search.
